“BAI Cares for Education 2024” Drives the Vision for Indonesia’s Golden Generation

Mempawah, January 16, 2025 – PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia (BAI) continues to demonstrate its strong commitment to education and human capital development through its flagship initiative, BAI Peduli Pendidikan 2024 (BAI Cares for Education 2024). As part of the Indonesian Mining Industry Holding, BAI is optimistic in its contribution to supporting Indonesia’s long-term vision of “Indonesia Emas 2045.” Wira Sembiring, Assistant Manager of External Relations & CSR at BAI, emphasized that this commitment reflects the company’s concern for strengthening foundational human resources in the surrounding areas—particularly through improvements in educational infrastructure, workforce readiness programs, and academic development support.
“BAI believes that education is the key to developing a competitive and capable generation. That’s why we design and implement education-focused CSR programs in close collaboration with local stakeholders. We appreciate and welcome continued support and cooperation from all parties to help strengthen the local talent ecosystem,” said Wira.
Throughout 2024, BAI has focused its CSR programs on three key areas: Education, Environment, and MSME Development—fully aligned with the Indonesian Government’s development priorities and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030. In the education pillar, BAI has implemented a series of ongoing programs including sewing training, welder certification courses, English language lessons, provision of educational facilities, academic appreciation initiatives, and vocational equipment support for technical students.
As part of its MSME empowerment efforts, BAI continued the sewing training program with tangible follow-up—providing participants with real business opportunities by sourcing the company’s employee uniforms from these local MSMEs. Since its launch on August 12, 2024, the program has trained 16 micro-entrepreneurs in advanced sewing skills. To further empower them, BAI partnered with the graduates to produce standardized uniforms for its employees.
In collaboration with the Regional Training and Development Unit (UPTD-LLK) for MSMEs in Mempawah Regency, BAI also held a welder competency training program for local residents. The initiative was designed to equip participants with industry-relevant skills and broaden employment opportunities—particularly in welding, which remains in high demand across industrial sectors. Sixteen selected participants, residing in Bukit Batu Village, Sungai Bundung Laut, Sungai Kunyit Laut, and other areas within Mempawah Regency, received both theoretical and hands-on training under the guidance of professional instructors. Beyond skill enhancement, the program also strengthened cooperation between the company and local government in supporting inclusive community development.
To support youth development, BAI collaborated with Karang Taruna Trikarya Bukit Batu Village and English teachers at SMP Negeri 2 Sungai Kunyit to organize an English course for children in Bukit Batu. The 3-month program involved around 60 children from various age groups, utilizing interactive and engaging methods such as practical conversation, educational games, and real-life communication simulations. This initiative aimed not only to improve English language skills but also to foster motivation and lifelong learning among the participants.
BAI also provided educational infrastructure support to three nearby schools: SDN 15 Sungai Kunyit, SDN 17 Sungai Kunyit, and SDS Al-Fajar. The support included essential items such as desks, student chairs, and whiteboards—intended to improve learning environments and ensure students have access to comfortable, well-equipped classrooms. The aid was directly delivered by BAI’s CSR team to the schools, reinforcing the company’s active role in advancing education and shaping future generations. As part of the Outstanding Student Appreciation Program, BAI supported 169 high-achieving students from several schools in Sungai Kunyit—including SDN 15, SDN 17, SDN 22, SDN 04, SDN 14, MA Darurrahman, SDN 01, and SDN 02—by distributing school supplies such as backpacks and shoes. This initiative was designed to inspire students to continue excelling and pursue their academic goals with confidence and enthusiasm.
Further underscoring its support for vocational education, BAI provided technical equipment to SMK Negeri 1 Mempawah Hilir’s engineering department. This assistance aims to improve hands-on learning experiences and better prepare students to become competent, job-ready professionals capable of meeting the demands of today’s modern industrial landscape.
