PT BAI Launches English Course for Bukit Batu Village Children in Partnership with Karang Taruna Trikarya

Mempawah, December 5, 2024 - As part of its commitment to supporting youth education and skill development, PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia (BAI) has partnered with Karang Taruna Trikarya of Bukit Batu Village and an English teacher from SMP Negeri 2 Sungai Kunyit to launch an English language course. This program was specifically designed for children in the village as a foundational step in preparing them for future global competition.
Now running for over two months, the program has engaged approximately 60 children from various age groups. Each session adopts an interactive and enjoyable approach to learning, incorporating practical conversations, educational games, and English communication simulations—making the learning process more engaging and effective.
The sessions are held at the Bukit Batu Village Office and have been met with high enthusiasm from the local community. Wira Sembiring, Assistant Manager of External Relations & CSR at PT BAI, explained that the initiative is part of the company’s broader CSR strategy to help unlock the potential of young people in surrounding areas.
“We believe that education is the key to building a better future. Through this program, we hope that the children of Bukit Batu Village can acquire English language skills that will open up more opportunities for them in the years to come,” said Wira.
Gunawan, Head of Karang Taruna Trikarya Bukit Batu Village, expressed his gratitude for the initiative. “We are truly thankful to PT BAI for its support and attention. This program is very meaningful for our village’s children, especially in boosting their confidence in communication,” he said.
Novi Alwansyah, an English teacher at SMP Negeri 2 Sungai Kunyit and one of the program instructors, also shared her perspective: “Today, I saw the great enthusiasm of the children in Bukit Batu Village. Many were very active, and even those who were initially more passive started to show progress. I’m confident they will be able to speak English through consistent practice, fun materials, and engaging activities,” she explained.
The English course will run for six months, using an interactive learning method that covers vocabulary, grammar, and everyday conversation. In addition, participants will receive supplementary materials such as educational games and role-playing exercises to enhance their understanding.
Through this initiative, children in Bukit Batu Village are expected to gain not only language skills but also a renewed motivation to learn and grow. This collaboration between PT Borneo Alumina Indonesia and Karang Taruna Trikarya stands as a strong example of how synergy between companies and local communities can bring meaningful impact to human resource development at the grassroots level.
